The Mountain Region

An ever present reminder of the mountains is the
western horizon from most areas of Alberta South. The Rocky Mountain fringe draw
thousands of visitors every year. The SWAG (South West Alberta Geocachers) play
in this part of Alberta South and have placed many wonderful caches here. The
Crowsnest Pass has been an active geocaching area since the sport began, some of
the first Alberta caches were placed in this area. Alberta South boasts a unique
and rewarding find called
Charlie's Cache which was placed by the well known geocacher Moun10Bike, the
only cache he ever placed in Canada and one of his few international placements
!
Alberta boasts three UNESCO International heritage sites and one of those sites
is the
Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. The mountains really cant' be
overlooked, they do the overlooking. There are some great caches hidden in this
part of Alberta South. A lot of the mountains in Alberta South aren't just
mountains, they are recognized symbols of our province and the Canadian Rockies
in many places around the world. These are pictures of two famous mountains in
Alberta South. The top picture is the Crowsnest, the mountain that gives a name
to the pass and to the highway. The bottom picture is Chief Mountain, Located in
the Waterton, this mountain is a popular destination for Americans and
Canadians, it is a tourist attraction in it's own right and a good example of a
widely recognized distinct mountain peak.
